ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – Firefighters had to battle blizzard conditions to extinguish a blaze at an apartment building in Orchard Park.

The flames broke out around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday on Hunters Ridge, and smoke could be seen on the first and second floors. Fire crews had a lot of difficulty fighting the blaze. Equipment was freezing, and it took until 8 p.m. before officials gave the all clear.

However, a half hour later, Orchard Park Fire was heading back to the scene after a small fire rekindled in the center of the building.

In all, almost a dozen individuals from seven of the eight apartments in the building were displaced. The building is a total loss, with damages pegged around $1.3 million.

No one was injured in the blaze. The cause remains under investigation.

Orchard Park Fire Department was assisted by Hillcrest, Windom, Scranton, Newton Abbott, Armor, Woodlawn and Reserve fire companies, and Hamburg and West Falls responded to staff fire stations in Orchard Park. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
