AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – A controversial tax break has been approved in Amherst. The town’s Industrial Development Agency held a meeting Friday morning on Attorney William Mattar’s request for a tax break to expand his operations. The measure has now been approved.

Mattar says this will be good for the community because it creates jobs. William Mattar also says the tax break would improve the tax base. Others say tax breaks are not intended for professional services.

Mattar wants to bulldoze a former house of worship next door to his current office and replace it with a new 20,000-square-foot office building to grow his business into other states, and a call center to help that happen.
