TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A towing company removed a vehicle from the water Thursday morning, at the foot of Sheridan Drive in the Town of Tonawanda, and the driver is now facing charges.
John’s Towing manager Mike Kotak said a vehicle ended up in the Niagara River after driving through a parking lot, hitting a dock and then traveling onto the ice-covered water. When the driver tried to spin around off the water, it hit another dock and went into the water.
Town of Tonawanda Police Capt. Joseph Carosi says the driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Michael Curtiss, was intoxicated. His BAC was reportedly three times over the legal limit.
Curtiss was not injured in the crash and is now facing charges of DWI, aggravated DWI and reckless driving.
