Court clerk caught in scheme sentenced

CORFU, N.Y. (WIVB) – A former court clerk who stole around $14,000 while on the job is off the hook.

A Genesee County judge ordered 33-year-old Brandi Watts to stay out of trouble for the next 11 months.

She admitted to making false entries to steal money while working as her father’s court clerk. Her father later tried to help keep Watts’ crimes from coming to light by threatening court staff who noticed discrepancies.

Prosecutors say Watts avoided jail time as part of her guilty plea.

Wyoming County District Attorney Donald O’Geen said, “She received the deal as promised back in October, and if she’s unsuccessful she will face open sentencing, which carries a four-year prison term.”

Watts has since paid back more than $10,000. Her father, Robert Alexander, has stepped down from the bench in Pembroke and Corfu. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
