WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Witnesses at Planet Fitness in West Seneca say they were terrorized Thursday night by a suspect waving a knife.
A day after the incident, members returned to the gym and things are slowly getting back to normal. But many workout enthusiasts can’t stop recalling Thursday night’s bizarre incident. Jackie Sullivan was working behind the desk when 24-year-old Louis Doll stormed through the front door.
Sullivan said, “He looked at me with the knife, and he was like ‘I’m crazy and I’ll kill you.'”
Admir Kadric had just started working out when Doll came into the gym.
“He was just pure red. He was just screaming out of anger,” Kadric said. “I mean, he was just on top of his lungs, just yelling out loud, ‘Who wanted some, who wanted some.’ When he was close around, I saw him…he wasn’t right in his mind.”
Kadric says Doll came behind him with a knife and was swinging the weapon around. He tried to stay calm despite the commotion Doll created.
He said, “If I would have panicked to anybody else, he would have panicked too. He was just being crazy so I let him be crazy till the cops come. We knew cops were on their way.”
Before doll ran into Planet Fitness, he was here at his home on Seneca Street. Police say it was his brother who called 911, but before they could arrive Doll was already gone.
Capt. Robert Sporysz said, “Passersby directed our officers to the gym and said we think we went that way.”
Authorities say when they directed Doll to drop his knife, he refused and went into a fighting stance. That’s when officers tased Doll and took him down.
“It gives us a chance to get in and hand cuff him, take a weapon away from him,” Capt. Sporysz said.
It all happened in a matter of three minutes, which Kadric says felt like an eternity.
“Thank God he didn’t attack anybody; thank God he didn’t actually stab anybody. That’s the best thing out of the whole thing, you know? He’s in jail now and everybody’s safe,” Kadric said.
Doll is charged with menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon. He’s locked up tonight on $20,000 bail and is due back in West Seneca Court next month.
