Man going to jail for shovel attack

NORTH HARMONY, N.Y. (WIVB) – A man who struck a 29-year-old victim in the head with a shovel will spend the next five years in prison.

James Hall, 34, of Ashville was sentenced for first degree attempted assault Thursday for striking the man in the head in North Harmony last June. He was arrested a short distance from the crime by sheriff’s deputies, who say they learned that the previous night, Hall had menaced a 14-year-old with a knife and damaged a vehicle.

When he is released from prison, Hall will have five years post release supervision. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
