AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – Authorities say a test drive led to the arrest of a 19-year-old woman on drunk driving charges.
State Police were patrolling Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday when troopers spotted a yellow Chevrolet with no license plates. The troopers attempted to get behind the vehicle to initiate a traffic stop, but was blocked by a grey Dodge. After this happened several more times, troopers say they located a safe spot and pulled both vehicles over.
The driver of the Dodge, 19-year-old Linet Fox, told troopers she was following the Chevy, whose driver was taking a test drive. But the vehicle was unregistered. The Chevy’s driver was ticketed and she was released at the scene. The vehicle was towed.
While this was happening, troopers say Fox locked herself in the vehicle and refused to comply with troopers. A few minutes later, she exited the vehicle, and State Police say they could smell alcohol on her breath.
As more troopers and Amherst Police arrived on scene, Fox attempted to flee by running onto Niagara Falls Boulevard, which had a lot of traffic at the time. Troopers placed her under arrest and had her vehicle towed.
At the State Police station, Fox refused to provide a breath sample, but was charged with DWI, resisting arrest, second degree obstructing governmental administration, reckless driving, disorderly conduct and moving from lane unsafely.
She is due back in court at a later date.
