Woman accused of DWI during travel ban

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Hanover woman is facing several charges, after allegedly driving drunk during a travel ban in Orchard Park. Police say they stopped 57-year-old Marilyn Smith on Abbott Road at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday. Smith told police she was coming from Buffalo, knew there was a travel ban in effect but became lost because of all the roadblocks.

Police say they needed to support Smith in standing up during the roadside check. She failed field sobriety tests and took a breath test which revealed a .22 percent blood alcohol content. In addition, police say there was an open can of beer in her console and bags of crack cocaine in her pocket.

Police say Smith is facing several charges, among them DWI, Aggravated DWI, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. She was held for arraignment.
