Baron bails out Griffs to beat Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (WIVB) – Canisius blew a 16-point second half lead, then staged a mini comeback of their own to top Iona 85-83 Friday night.

Billy Baron scored 29 points – the final two, sealing the win at the free throw line, after Baron stole a pass and drew a foul going to the basket.

Iona scored 18 straight points in the second half to take the lead, after the Griffs controlled the action for much of the night.

Chris Perez had 17 points for the Griffs, while freshman Zach Lewis pumped in 14. Canisius plays at Monmouth on Sunday.
