BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – If the game is on the line, Canisius will give the ball to senior point guard Billy Baron. It’s not exactly a secret for the Griffs.
Last week’s game-winning three pointer against Rider was just the latest example of Baron coming up big in a clutch situation.
“Being a senior, being a captain, you have to be ready to make those plays,” said Baron. “You can’t look to anyone else but yourself. It’s something I worked for, I take a lot of pride in making those plays. I want the ball in that situation.”
“We trust him to get the ball and make big plays,” said forward Jordan Heath.
“He’s not only not afraid to take the shot, but he also makes other players better,” said Canisius Head Coach Jim Baron, who also happens to be Billy’s dad.
Baron comes into Friday’s game as the NCAA’s fifth leading scorer at 22.9 points per game. He also averages 4.9 assists a night.
The Griffs visit Iona tonight at 9pm, with both teams 5-1 in the MAAC.
