BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The attorney for six of the seven female aides of former assemblymen Dennis Gabryszak says his clients will seek monetary damages in the millions of dollars. Gabryszak, who resigned on Sunday, has been accused of sexual harassment.
Attorney John Bartolomei tells News 4 Senior Correspondent Rich Newberg the female aides will sue for economic damages, personal injury in the form of emotional distress, and punitive damages. Bartolomei, who agreed to meet Newberg off camera, said his clients will also seek compensation for delays in the advancement of their careers.
Bartolomei has released a video that Gabryszak allegedly had to sent to one of the female employees.
Bartolomei describes the video as showing Gabryszak “… in a bathroom stall apparently masturbating or receiving oral sex and at the end of the video saying, ‘Is this what you wanted?’ ”
Gabryszak’s attorney Terry Connors tells Newberg “There is no context for the video.”
Gabryszak, in his resignation statement, said “There was never any intent on my part to sexually harass any member of my staff or to create a hostile work environment.”
Gabryszak said, “There was mutual banter and exchanges that took place that should not have taken place because it is inappropriate in the workplace even if it does not constitute sexual harassment.”
Bartolomei says Gabryszak went beyond banter in his alleged behavior toward some of his female employees.
