Mack reflects on recruiting process

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – UB All-American linebacker Khalil Mack will leave as the most decorated player in program history, but he nearly chose another school coming out of high school.

Mack had planned on accepting a scholarship offer to Liberty, when one of the school’s coaches left for Buffalo. That opened the door for the Bulls to take a closer look at Mack, and the rest is history.

“He got a job here in Buffalo. Next thing you know, I had a visit from the Buffalo coaches down in Fort Pierce Florida a week before signing day,” said Mack.

“They wanted me to just come up for a visit… experience the area and see if I liked it, pretty much. And I liked it,” said Mack.

Mack and the Bulls will take on San Diego State this Saturday in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl at 5:30pm on ESPN. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
