BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Benchmark Group unveiled its revised design Tuesday for a three-story building that could soon rise in the 700 block of Elmwood.
The new multi-use complex would be built on the parking lot between the Globe Market and 7-Eleven and add 24 apartments and retail space to a section of Elmwood where parking is already at a premium.
Elmwood Village Association Executive Director Carly Battin said, “There is parking involved in the building design so there is parking under the building, which is 25 spots for those 24 units that are in the apartment building. The retail frontage in the front will not have on-street parking but there’s lots of on-street parking in the Elmwood Village as well as the side streets around there. There are many businesses on Elmwood that don’t have designated parking.”
And the city will apparently help alleviate the problem by increasing parking in the village.
“In conjunction with working with Commissioner Helfer, he has agreed to allow us to open up both sides of Ashland Avenue, Lafayette Avenue and West Ferry to accommodate the parking that we will be losing when the development starts on Elmwood Avenue,” Elmwood Village Association Board Member Len Sciolino said.
The revised design still needs final approval from the City Planning Board before construction can begin.
