Frosted over windshield leads to crash

STAFFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) – Authorities in Genesee County say a driver caused an accident because his windshield was frosted over.

The head-on crash happened on Rt. 5 in Stafford around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday. Deputies say the driver of a car crossed the center line and hit a pickup truck.
Christopher Park of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said, “The conditions on the road at the time, there was some snow, some very light snow. But the operator of the vehicle stated he traveled over the center line because his windshield was not defrosted.”

First responders used the Jaws of Life to free the driver of the car, who suffered serious leg injuries and was flown to ECMC by Mercy Flight. He is facing several charges.

The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.
