Sabres call up Varone from Amerks

Phil Varone will get his first shot in the NHL, with the Sabres calling up the forward from Rochester today.

The 23-year old leads the Amerks with 33 points (8 goals, 25 assists) in 38 games this season. He is a former 5th round draft pick for San Jose, but has spent his entire three-year pro career with the Amerks.

The Sabres sent forward Kevin Porter and defenseman Brayden McNabb down to Rochester today as well.
