New description of phony Water Auth. workers

Police say the thieves posing as Erie County Water Authority workers talked their way into their victims’ homes in Williamsville, East Amherst and Cheektowaga.

In each case, police say at least one suspect would distract the victim while others went through the house stealing jewelry and cash. Now police have a new description of the crooks:

Two white males, possibly Hispanic, in their 40s. Both were wearing light khaki jackets that may have had patches on the sleeves and carrying two-way radios.

Anyone who sees these men should call 911.

Real Erie County Water Authority workers wear a blue uniform with the Water Authority emblem and carry a photo ID badge. They also drive a vehicle that is clearly marked on both sides with the Water Authority emblem. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
