BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Sabres shuffled their defensive prospects around a bit today, sending Mark Pysyk down to Rochester in the AHL and calling up Chad Ruhwedel to take his place.
The Pysyk move has very little to do with the way he is playing – interim Head Coach Ted Nolan has said repeatedly, he’s pleased with Pysyk’s performance. Instead, the move allows him to continue playing games through the entire Olympic break. By making the move today, Pysyk can continue playing in the AHL, then presumably return once the Sabres return to action in late February.
Ruhwedel gets another chance with the big club, after finishing the season in Buffalo last season. He currently leads all Rochester defensemen with 17 points in 34 games.
The Sabres visit Columbus Saturday night at 7pm.
