ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – All eyes were on Jim Schwartz today, as the Bills officially introduced their new defensive coordinator.
Schwartz replaces Mike Pettine, after Pettine left to take over as the Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns.
While next year’s defensive scheme will be different, Schwartz says he will maintain the aggressive edge the team displayed on that side of the ball in 2013.
“We’re an attack scheme, it’s a scheme built on the guys up front getting after the quarterback,” said Schwartz. “As much as you want to be multi-dimensional with personnel groups, this league comes down to one on one and I think we have some guys that can do that.”
Schwartz specifically mentioned the team’s defensive line as a strength.
“There’s some talent up front and it’s on these coaches to put those guys in good position to make plays,” said Schwartz. “Whether that’s carry over from last year’s scheme, whether that’s new things that we bring. I think that’s what coaching is all about, we put players in position to make plays and that’s a pretty easy group to do it.”
