Firefighters rescued an Amherst resident from harm’s way Sunday evening. There were heavy flames at a one-and-a-half story home on Patton Place around 7:50 p.m. Fire crews say they were on the scene within four minutes.
Crews say the resident was reluctant to leave the structure and was taken into safety immediately. Firefighters say she is now being cared for by her family.
The flames were extinguished quickly. Firefighters say the fire was traced to a toaster oven, but the cause is still under investigation. Damage is estimated at $350,000.
Four firefighters suffered minor injuries and were evaluated on the scene.
