Bills lose three assistants to Browns

Jim O'Neil

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Bills lost three assistant coaches on the defensive side of the ball tonight, with Jim O’Neil, Jeff Hafley, and Brian Fleury joining Mike Pettine in Cleveland.

Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone revealed those moves earlier in the day during news conference to introduce new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

O’Neil becomes Pettine’s defensive coordinator in Cleveland, after serving as a linebackers coach in Buffalo last season. Hafley just joined the Bills this month, and Fleury was a quality control coach.

Defensive line coach Anthony Weaver will likely join that group. Marrone said today, he “doesn’t feel good about him staying.”

The Browns also hired recently-fired Bills linebacker coach Chuck Driesbach. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
