Seacrest announces local teacher’s Grammy

We’d like to congratulate Westfield Academy teacher Kent Knappenberger for his music educator Grammy. Ryan Seacrest was on stage to announce that he beat out 32,000 finalists to become the first teacher to win the award.

Knappenberger has taught at the academy for more than 25 years.

Mr. K is humbled to be the first ever recipient. He told News 4, “When I found out I cried. The people I teach and what I do is very important to me and I know the country is filled with very talented educators.”

Mr. K will receive $10,000 as part of the award. He says he’ll be putting it toward new instruments, sheet music, and a trip to New York to see Broadway for a small group of students. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
