A Customs and Border Protection Supervisor who admitted possessing child porn was sentenced to five years in federal prison on Wednesday.

Steven Metz, 42, of Hamburg was arrested in November 2012 after around 3,000 images and 70 videos of child pornography, some of which depicted violence and others involving children as young as 3-years-old, were found on his computer at his home.

Federal agents searched his home a month before arresting him. Prosecutors say after the search, Metz’s wife insisted he leave. Authorities say Metz then drove his car onto the train tracks in Blasdell in an attempt to take his own life.

But Metz survived. In addition to five years in prison, he was fired from his job and will be supervised for five years after he is released.

Metz, who has children of his own, worked for Customs and Border Protection for 16 years.
