Lancaster Police are looking into how an elderly woman believed to be in her 80s who was found behind a senior facility died.
The woman was found Wednesday afternoon behind GreenField Health and Rehabilitation Center. At the scene, police told News 4 the woman’s death did not appear to be suspicious. Police say she was last seen around dinnertime, Tuesday night. It’s unclear what time she left the complex to go outside although police say she was dressed in her pajamas.
Police are questioning if the woman was confused and wandered outside. They also say it’s possible she could have fallen while outside. and that she froze to death.
It’s still unclear who reported the woman missing and who called police. It’s also unclear if the woman was living in a building where she was able to come and go on her own.
Jurgen Arndt, President and CEO of GreenField Manor, released the following statement regarding the woman’s death:
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a resident in our independent apartments. At this time the matter is still under investigation by the Lancaster Police. We are cooperating fully and will continue to provide any assistance the police may require. Our prayers and thoughts are with the resident’s family and friends.”
