Two people leaving Burlington Coat Factory on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga Tuesday night were attacked by three people who drove up in a car, and one of the attackers was wielding a hammer.
Police tell News 4 the pair were leaving around 7 p.m. when a car carrying three people pulled up. The driver of the vehicle, Alicia Lombardo, 42, ran after the two women with a hammer, according to investigators.
Authorities say a struggle ensued between the two women leaving the store and three women from the vehicle, during which the hammer was dislodged. Shantia Houze, 25, one of the two women who had been leaving the store, then picked up the hammer and hit one of the three women from the vehicle, causing cuts to the woman’s forehead, police say. Houze is also accused of breaking one of the windows on the car.
Lombardo is charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment. Houze is charged with second degree assault, criminal mischief, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Bizarrely, the two parties involved in the incident claimed to not know one another. It remains unclear who called police.
Police say no charges were placed against the other woman leaving the store or the two others who were in the vehicle.
