ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Bills are quickly remodeling their coaching staff with experience, hiring Pepper Johnson and Fred Pagac Friday night.
Johnson, a longtime NFL linebacker, spent the last 14 years as an assistant coach with the Patriots. He will coach the defensive line in Buffalo, which likely means defensive line coach Anthony Weaver will be joining Cleveland. The Bills granted the Browns permission to interview Weaver earlier this week. Johnson coached both linebackers and the defensive line during his time with New England.
Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick had nothing but praise for Johnson, when he made the decision to leave New England this month. “Of all the people I coached or worked with, nobody has more passion and love for the game than Pepper. His energy and wisdom for football knows no limits,” Belichick said in a statement released by the Patriots.
Pagac, the new linebackers coach, is a former defensive coordinator with the Vikings and Ohio State. The majority of his 13-year NFL coaching career has been spent as a linebackers coach.
