Girl Scouts take over at a South Buffalo Candy Shop

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) The Girl Scouts of Western New York are taking the reins at a local candy shop.

After a successful workshop earlier this month, Park Edge Sweet Shoppe and Cookie Expressions are once again inviting troops to join them at the shop to learn the tricks of the trade and earn their “Chocolatier Badge.”

The shop’s owners say events like these are crucial in helping young girls build their self-esteem and see what they can achieve in the future.

“It’s really important for young girls to have positive role models in their lives, showing them how they can work to accomplish a goal,” said co-owner Anna Hartog.

In order to earn their Chocolatier badge, the nearly 40 girls participating will have to complete four tasks: Making a chocolate mold, running the enrobing machine, learning how to balance the books and working the front of the shop.

“In this partnership with Park Edge Sweet Shoppe, Girl Scouts have an extraordinary opportunity to see what it takes to run a small business and how the skills that they develop when running their own cookie businesses are essential to being a successful entrepreneur,” said Girl Scouts of Western New York Vice President of Sales, Mary Jo Brown.

This will make for a great photo and story opportunity, and you’re invited to the shop to speak with the shop owners, Girl Scouts and troop leaders.
