Alleged hit-and-run driver not hard to find

State Police say a driver rear-ended a vehicle leaving Applebee’s in Dunkirk and then fled the scene.

Troopers responded to the Vineyard Drive restaurant after the accident around 12:10 a.m. on Saturday but say it wasn’t difficult to find the alleged hit-and-run driver. Police say after rear-ending the vehicle, 33-year-old John Spray of South Dakota drove to the Comfort Inn where he was staying, which is right across the street from Applebee’s.

Spray was arrested for DWI. Police say his BAC was .14 percent.

He was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail on $7,000 bail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
