Loyal dog falls into sinkhole

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- A woman and her dog survived a very scary situation in Buffalo. Mattie Moore and her three-year-old German Shepherd Mack went for their usual morning walk on Buffalo’s east side around 5 a.m. Sunday.

It was still dark outside when she got to MLK Park, near East Parade Street. She noticed the sidewalk was flooded so she went onto the snow-covered grassy area in the park instead. All of a sudden, boom, she fell into a 10-foot-deep sinkhole. She says it happened so fast she couldn’t tell if the ground gave out right then or if the sinkhole had already been there.

As she tried to pull herself out, her loyal dog Mack fell into the hole head first as he tried to save his owner. She got out of the hole but couldn’t help her dog so she called 911. The police and fire department showed up quickly about five minutes later.

Moore explained, “He was crying, I was crying, but I knew I had to stay calm because I didn’t know what was going on.”

She credits the Buffalo Fire and Police Department with saving her dog’s life. He is a little sore and sick Monday morning but she can’t afford a vet right now.
