Amherst may set rules about drone-use

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB)- The Town of Amherst could be one of the first local municipalities to set rules about using drone.

At a town hall meeting on Tuesday, residents explored possible laws to protect their safety and privacy. Many of the small, unmanned aircraft are equipped with cameras.

“I think the major concern would be the surveillance aspect, that without anything further in terms of technology of the law, that these devices would be able to fly over private homes and residences and photograph and tape people all without a search warrant,” said former Amherst town supervisor Dan Ward.

Amazon.com is considering using drones for deliveries. The FAA would have to create rules and regulations.
