Driver takes stolen car on high-speed pursuit

After spotting a stolen car, troopers say they had to chase the driver down the I-190 and into the City of Buffalo before taking him into custody.

State Police saw the stolen car on Ransom Road on Grand Island and followed the driver to the I-190. The driver took off at a high speed and police pursued. Spike strips were deployed just south of I-290, which caused at least one of the car’s tires to go flat.

Police say the driver exited onto Ontario Street and took some side streets, at one point sideswiping a police car, before hitting another vehicle at Arthur and Tonawanda hard enough to have the car’s airbags deploy.

After that, troopers say the driver tried to run but was quickly caught.

Police say the whole incident took about 15 minutes. The name of the driver has not been released. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
