State Parks Police pulled a hiker’s body from the Genesee River Gorge at Letchworth State Park on Thursday.

The search began for 21-year-old Stephen Bzibziak around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday after authorities received a phone call saying the North Tonawanda man was injured after falling into the gorge. Late Wednesday afternoon, the Parks Police rope rescue team located the victim’s body in the gorge. He was already deceased.

Because of winter weather conditions and nightfall, recovery operations were halted. Thursday morning, first responders were able to pull Bzibiak’s body from the gorge.
