Alec Toth is one of the top high school swimmers in Western New York and his record outside of the pool is just as impressive.
Toth, who attends Starpoint High School, challenges himself by taking AP courses, where he still manages to maintain an A average.
Physics teacher Stephen Dylag said, “He is a very good thinker, very good at contributing in class. He is just a positive influence about all his classmates.”
Someday Toth would like to be a mechanical engineer.
“I am actually thinking about aerospace options, so going into missile designs or defense system designs,” he said.
But until then, Toth remains the top swimming in the state.
“Swimming is my major sport. I have made the state championships since ninth grade,” he said. “I specialize in distance but I can pretty much do all of them.”
Varsity swim coach Tim Menges said, “Alec is one-of-a-kind. He works hard, is willing to sacrifice for the goals that he set.”
And Toth says those sacrifices are all worth it.
“The feeling you get winning a race going to states, winning the awards, just a great feeling. Doesn’t get better than that,” he said.
