Man who started fire at UB sentenced

A University at Buffalo student who set a dorm room on fire while smoking marijuana is paying the price.

A judge sentenced 20-year-old Alec Seidenberg to serve three years probation. He has already paid a $1,000 fine.

Police say Seidenberg dropped a butane torch that he was using to smoke pot. The fire on UB’s North Campus in Spaulding Quad caused $80,000 in damage. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
