Witherspoon lends a hand at Park

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Former UB basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon is quietly having an impact on Western New York hoops once again, helping out at The Park School.

Witherspoon, who spent 14 seasons leading the Bulls, is a long-time friend of Park Head Coach Mike Battaglia. When the opportunity presented itself for him to help out, Witherspoon came running.

“Honestly, I would have done this for a lot of kids because I’m from Western New York,” said Witherspoon. “I come to the gym and coach coaches the team, and every now and then, he and I will talk about something. I think I’m a sounding board for him.”

The Park School, playing in its first season in the Monsignor Martin Association, had to forfeit several games earlier in the season due to an ineligible player. Despite the setback, the team has a 10-8 record.
