Four accused of stealing, forging checks

Four people have been arrested on charges they cashed three stolen checks at a grocery store in Cattaraugus County.

State Police began investigating three weeks ago after a Freedom woman told troopers that three personal checks had been stolen from her and were cashed at the Fresh Market in Franklinville.

In all, four people are now facing charges of second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and second degree forgery

  • Matthew Bellaus, 21, of Franklinville – arrested January 19
  • Stephen Frank IV, 21, of Franklinville – arrested January 21 – additionally charged with petit larceny
  • Matthew Grimes, 20, of Salamanca – arrested February 6
