Residents deal with dangerous ice issues

HAMBURG, NY (WIVB)-Residents in Hamburg are dealing with some dangerous ice issues. A viewer first tipped us off to the problem at the Brook Gardens Mobile Home Park.

“It’s an adventure. I got stuck yesterday,” said Bill Brox.  “The tire tracks started to become the grand canyon,” said Steve Rost. He says last Friday, a crevice started forming on Roxbury Drive in the Brook Gardens Mobile Home Park.

“It’s grown to how you see it today, to be quite the animal,” said Rost.  In some spots the crevice is over two feet wide and about 6 inches deep. The gully stretches the length of three homes. Rost says it’s enough to do damage. “Of course it beat the heck out of the front end of the cars. I can see the wheels being out of alignment and costing us more than just a little inconvenience at the moment,” said Rost. “Every time I have to go in and out I am bouncing around a lot,” said Brox.

Rost and Brox believe there’s an issue with a water line. “The maintenance people here said we shut the water off but as you can see it’s still flowing,” said Rost.

We caught up with the person who lives in the home where it looks like the leak begins. She says she’s had a plumber come out and it’s not an issue with her home. Rost says someone from maintenance came out, but failed to fix anything. “He couldn’t move the ice and so they put up these orange cones just as a measure to keep people aware so they don’t get stuck in the canyon.”

Besides the obvious problem, Rost says he hasn’t heard from the property manager after leaving multiple messages. “It’s a question of when are they going to do anything about it, but you can’t reach them.”

News Four stopped by the Brook Garden’s office on Wednesday , but it was closed. We also tried calling to speak with the property manager, and our calls went unreturned. On the voicemail, they did say water would be turned off on Thursday, but it’s unclear if it’s related to the crevice. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
