The former owner of a nightclub in Buffalo’s Entertainment District and his wife have been sentenced for lying to the IRS.

Vincent Giamo and his wife Mary, both of Orchard Park, used to own and operate Utopia on Franklin Street. Between 2002 and 2005, the couple kept two sets of books for preparing taxes, costing the government around $1.2 million in unpaid taxes.

Both were sentenced Wednesday to three years probation and ordered to pay $670,000 in restitution. So far, they have already turned over $550,000 to the IRS.

The couple will also face civil penalities associated with the charges.
