Parents, educators to talk about common core

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB)- You can bet the recent proposed changes to the common core will be up for discussion Thursday night in Niagara Falls. The high school is hosting a forum on the controversial learning standard.

Administrators say this is a great chance for parents and educators to voice their opinions on the core. The meeting’s happening Thursday at 6 p.m.

Scheduled speakers at the event include Walter Polka, former Lewiston-Porter Central School superintendent; John McKenna, principal of Fletcher Elementary School, City of Tonawanda; and Ashli Skura-Dreher, a Lew-Port special-education teacher and the current state teacher of the year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
