Suspect steals SUV with 11-year-old in back seat

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police are searching Friday for a man who stole a white Ford Explorer Thursday night with an 11-year-old child in the back seat.

Officers say the boy’s mother entered in a store at Bailey and Gerald around 10 p.m. and left the child in the vehicle.  During the time the woman was in the store, the suspect got into the vehicle and drove away. Authorities say the suspect may not have known the child was in the vehicle.

Police found the vehicle and the child around 30 minutes after the vehicle was stolen, on Roebling Avenue only a short distance from the store.

Terrell Smith was a wtiness and described to News 4 what he saw when the mother and son were reunited, “I heard the mom yelling she was real happy, and then when she got her son they left and took her back to the precinct.”  The child was not harmed.
