Griffs focus on defense for stretch run

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – After back-to-back losses knocked Canisius out of first place in the MAAC, senior point guard Billy Baron says a late-season push has to start at the defensive end of the court.

“We really struggled this past weekend. That’s why we went oh-and-two, we couldn’t get any stops,” said Baron.

With a road matchup against rival Niagara – a team that can score with the best of them in the MAAC – on tap for Friday night, it could be the perfect opportunity for the Griffs to boost their confidence at the defensive end.

“This is good timing to face them, because we’re really going to see what we’re made of. We’re going to see how we’re going to make these adjustments. We’ve been working really hard in practice to do it,” said Baron.

Friday’s matchup is set from 9pm at the Gallagher Center. The game is nationally televised on ESPNU. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
