Short-lived chase leads to long list of charges

CONEWANGO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies say a man tried to flee on foot after drugs were found in his vehicle following a stop over inadequate headlights.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies pulled over 21-year-old Brian McGonagle on Benson Road in Conewango just before midnight on Friday for having inadequate headlights. After being stopped, authorities could see drugs in his vehicle and went to place McGonagle under arrest. At that point, deputies say he fled on foot.

But the chase was short-lived. After a short distance, McGonagle was taken into custody and charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, third degree aggravated unlicensed operation and having inadequate headlights.

He was taken to the Cattaraugus County Jail and is due back in court at a later date.
