BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A community center on Buffalo’s west side will get some renovations with help from New York State.

Tuesday morning, lawmakers announced a $150,000 grant to the Butler-Mitchell Boys and Girls Club on Massachusetts Avenue. Work on the building, including air conditioning, will allow the club to better serve more children and families.

Chief Professional Officer Diane Rowe said, “As you can see we don’t have a lot of windows to open up but we’re actually going to bring in more natural lighting, we’re going to be fixing the gym, we’re going to be adding an additional art room, we’re going to turn our kitchen into a teaching kitchen, not just a serving kitchen.”

The existing building dates back to the late 1950s. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
