Ice caves at Crystal Beach now off limits

FORT ERIE, ON. (WIVB) – The public is now barred from visiting the ice caves along Crystal Beach in Fort Erie, Ontario.

News 4 visited the caves on Monday, where hundreds of people were seen climbing, sliding and jumping all over the ice. Several people were injured from slips and falls.

That increase of people combined with warming temperatures this week have caused large cracks to form, and water is now covering the ice in some areas.

The caves have now been closed off due to safety concerns. Bullet News reports if the caves do not deteriorate from the forecasted warmer weather, bulldozers will be brought in to knock them down.
