Toronto police to wear body cameras

Toronto police plan to start outfitting their troops with body-worn cameras before the end of this year.

The Toronto Star reports that the pilot project was approved last week for body-worn, or lapel cameras.

An American study on the use of cameras by police forces showed as much as a 90% drop in complaints against officers.

There are still some details to work out but Toronto Police feel that the cameras will modify behavior by both police and the people they deal with. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
