BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A woman accused of neglecting her dog faced a judge in Batavia City Court on Tuesday.

Nina Kelso pleaded not guilty to animal abuse charges. Investigators say the 29-year-old did not feed her pit bull, and the animal was so severely malnourished that when they found it, it could not stand on its own.

The dog is now recovering at an animal hospital.

Kelso is facing charges of torturing or injuring animals, failure to provide sustenance, and owning or harboring an unlicensed dog.
