Skaters test out new pond hockey ice rinks

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Skaters took to the ice at the new refrigerated rinks at the Buffalo Riverworks site on Ganson Street.

Crews have been hard at work readying the rinks for this weekend’s Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Tournament.

Labatt Blue Brand Manager Lisa Texido said, “Regardless of what the outside temperature is these rinks will maintain a temperature between 18 and 22 degrees. So even if its 40 or 50 this weekend we’ll still be skating and these rinks will hold up beautifully.”

The pond hockey tournament is Friday and Saturday. More than 800 players will compete. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
