BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- A pair of local lawmakers are having a health care coverage countdown. Open enrollment under the Affordable Care Act ends March 31st. Thursday, State Senator Tim Kennedy and Assemblywoman Crystal Peoples Stokes are launching a campaign to make sure low-income people know how to apply and have an advocate during the process.
They are also calling on the legislature to pass Governor Cuomo’s proposal for a Basic Health Program that would provide more affordable coverage for those just above the Medicaid level.
As for the Affordable Care Act, Vice President Joe Biden says the government probably won’t hit its goal of enrollees by the deadline. He says it would be a good start if five to six million people sign up for the president’s health care plan by the end of March. That total would be significantly short of the administration’s goal of seven million signees.
