INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WIVB) – Williamsville native John Urschel won the Campbell Trophy at Penn State, given to the nation’s top student-athlete, but he’s glad to focus on only football for once.

Urschel, one of the offensive guards invited to this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, has his sights solely set on the NFL these days.

“Man, I’m excited to be able to just focus on football 100 percent and just immerse myself in that. And see how much better I can be when I have 100 percent of my focus on football, and I don’t have to worry about academics,” said Urschel.

The former Canisius High School star says he always dreamed of playing in the NFL, but did not start to see it as a reality until about a year ago.

“I didn’t really focus on th NFL. I’m very short-sighted,” said Urschel. “But I did start to realize that, going into my senior year when people start talking about draft boards and things of the sort.”

This week, he’ll get his chance to move up even higher on some of those boards.
