Woman lied on passport application to avoid taxes

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A woman who lied on a passport application to try to avoid paying back taxes was sentenced on Thursday.

Diane Abram, 61, of Buffalo lied on her application and used the name of Diane Ballard and a different Social Security number in an attempt to obtain a passport that would allow her to avoid paying $25,000 in back taxes. She was convicted of making false statements and tax evasion and sentenced Thursday to five months of home confinement.

She will have two years of supervised release.
