Rain comes down, flooding threat rises

WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB)- Worries about flooding are rising Friday morning along the banks of local creeks and streams. There is some ponding near the Stevenson Street Bridge in South Buffalo.

Crews were out all night, keeping watch for potential flooding in South Buffalo and West Seneca. Leading up to this morning, they cut triangle holes in the ice on Cazenovia and Buffalo Creeks. Officials say that should help relieve pressure and prevent ice jams from forming.

West Seneca also delivered two truckloads of sandbags to neighbors on Lexington Green. Thursday night, we found some of them checking those reinforcements and getting generators ready to go, just in case.

The creeks are expected to crest Friday morning.
